Proclaiming the power of Christ-like
love in marriage and family relationships
The Importance of Christ-like Love
The greatest treatise ever written on marriage was penned by the Apostle Paul in his New Testament letter to the church at Ephesus. The world that Paul was writing to involved the coalescence of three different cultures, the Jewish, the Hellenistic (Greek), and Roman citizenry. The message that husbands were to love their wives as Christ loved the church, and wives were to submit to their husbands as to the Lord, would have been just as counter-cultural then as it is today. Yet the love exhibited by Jesus as He gave Himself up for the church is the very essence of who God is; and it is an illustration of what our marriage and family relationships should look like each day. Christ-like love is putting others first. It is submitting to one another out of reverence for Him. It is not overlooking the God-given roles we have as husbands and wives, but instead, it is exhibiting a love that promotes healing, wholeness and restoration as we continue along life's journey together.
